Stadium at Nawanshahr: Newly constructed stadium at I.T.I. Ground in
which Eight Lane Cynder Track is under construction. It will uplift the new
generation health while indulging the youth in sports and coming players
will loring the laurels to Nawanshahr district.
Stadium at Khatkar Kalan: At Khatkar Kalan new Pavilion is under construction at
Adarsh Public School Ground. After using this Pavilion new youth will
improve their health and loring laurels in sports in various disciplines.
District Olympic Association Nawanshahr: It has been
registered under Co-operative Society Act 1860 from GM DIC vide letter no.
772 on 10th November, 2006. After registration DOA will help for conducting
different District Open Championships in different Games and will uplift the
standard of sports in Nawanshahr.
Badminton Association Nawanshahr: Badminton Association
Nawanshahr conducted the open District Badminton Championship for Men &
Women, Boys & Girls at Badminton Hall Nawanshahr from 1st December to
3rd December 2006 under the President ship of Hon'ble Sh. Krishan Kumar, IAS,
Deputy Commissioner Nawanshahr and Worthy DC Sahib gave away the prizes to
the winner.
Like all other fields Nawanshahr has widely contributed in the field of games as well. So many players belonging to district Nawanshahr has made the people of this region feel proud of them.
The wrestlers of this district are world famous. Village Raipur Doaba is known as the "Nursery of the Wrestlers". Sardar Kishan Singh wrestler "Sitara-e-Hind" came like a storm in this field. By seeing the popularity of Kishan Singh the king of Bilaspur propsed to make him his "Darbari Wrestler".
Everybody knows about Harbans Singh wrestler "Rustam-e-Hind", who started his victorious journey by defeating Australian chapmpion "Billi Meske" in December 1937. he got the "Wrestler of the Orient" award after defeating a Chinese wrestler (Wong Bock Chenug). Next year (1938) in Madras, he got "Rutam-e-Hind" award by defeating Kingkong. From the Mayor of Madras he got a gold cup and a cheque of 10,000 rupees.
Among the weight lifter of Nawanshahr, a native of village Soondh Sardar Tara Singh is quite famous. In Asian Games, held in New Delhi in 1982, he got third position and got a bronze medal in weight lifting.
A famous player of hockey S. Surinder Singh Sodhi Olympian is the native of village Gunachaur of district Nawanshahr.
A native of village Khankhana Sardar Mohinder Singh is famous in the field of athletics. In Asian Games he got gold medal in long jump.
Initially the game of football was not much popular in district Nawanshahr but after Niranjan Mangoowal played national in 1966-67 people started taking interest in this game. This district has given to India international players of football like Dhanwant (Mukandpur), Golda
(Mangoowal).
