Brief History and Working Results

 

The Nawanshahr Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd; Nawanshahr was registered under Cooperative Societies Act on 26-04-1956. The original crushing capacity of the Mills was 1000 TCD which was later on enhanced to 1250 TCD and Mills started its Ist crushing season 1968-69 with this capacity. The crushing capacity was further increased to 2500 TCD in the year 1987-88.

The Mills was awarded 13 Efficiency Awards on different accounts in a period of Eight Years working since 1993-94 by National Federation of Coop.Sugar Factories Ltd., New Delhi.

This Mills has always been ahead amongst all the Cooperative Sugar Mills in the State in sugarcane crushing and manufacturing of sugar.

Review of last Crushing season 2005-06

              Crushing season 2005-06 started on 08-11-2005 ended on 25-02-2006 after crushing 28.40 lacs quintals sugarcane and manufacturing 2,54,077.00 quintals of sugar which is the highest among all the Cooperative Sugar Mills of Punjab.

Doaba Alco Plant, Chandpur Rurkie.

Doaba Alco Chemicals a unit of the Mills was installed at Chandpur Rurkie, Tehsil: Balachaur and it took 3 years to become operational. The commercial production of Industrial Alcohol started in July, 1996 but could not be operated regularly due to various reasons mainly cost of production being high than realization. This plant is not functioning since last 7-8 year and there is no scope for running it any more. The only alternative is to sell it out and for the purpose meeting of the General Body will be held shortly.

Tissue Culture & Bio-Control Laboratories.

Tissue Culture Lab. has been established in the Mills for quality sugarcane seed production and its multiplication. The Bio.Lab. has been established to control sugarcane Stalk Borer and to reduce the use of chemicals to control Pest & diseases of sugarcane. Both these laboratories are functioning quite satisfactory and giving good results.

Crushing Plan for the season 2006-07

The current crushing season 2006-07 started on 18-11-2006. For this season 35.00 lacs quintals of sugarcane has been bonded against optimum requirement of 37.50 lacs quintals of sugarcane. Since the Government announced Rs.132/- per quintal against Rs. 115/- of last year, hence numbers of farmers are doing additional cane bond with the Mills. The Mills is running satisfactorily since the start of season and good results are expected.
